Strangers with Candy and Girls with Steroids

Occasionally, television and cinema explore the topic of anabolic steroid use by women, usually for comic effect. Such is the case with the sitcom, Strangers with Candy. The main character is Jerri Blank – a 46 year-old former drug addict who lives with her parents and has re-enrolled as a freshman at Flatpoint High School. Given the absurdity of the premise of this Comedy Central sitcom, we can only expect an equally unrealistic treatment of the topic of female steroid use. [Read more...]

Former police officer Anthony Forgione pleaded guilty once again to steroid-related charges while on probation for illegally selling anabolic steroids and human growth hormone through an anti-aging clinic in 2008. In 2008, Forgione pleaded guilty to charges related to the sale of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone (HGH) through Infinity Longevity anti-aging clinic and his ‘wellness referral service.’  Forgione dissolved Infinity Longevity in July 2008. However, he created a new company in Florida in May 2009 using the same name. Next Proteins Founder Talks About Former Business Partner Dan Duchaine

Next Protein founder David Jenkins talks about his former business partner Dan Duchaine the “Steroid Guru”. Duchaine worked with Jenkins at Next Nutrition and appeared in print advertisements for Ultimate Orange: “Hey Dan, What’s up?” I asked answering the phone in the wee morning hours. I hear Dan say slowly all nubained out, “Why do you wrap a hamster in masking tape?” Perplexed I answer, “What?” Dan chuckled and slurs out, “So it doesn’t explode when you fuck it. See you in Anaheim tomorrow.” Dan hangs up. “You know I don’t eat fish.” he said. “Well you would know if you bothered to read my books.” This was a typical Dan-style opening line as we sat in an Anaheim hotel during our first meeting. New Jersey Clueless About How to Reduce Steroid Use Among Cops

New Jersey legislators have introduced new bills to address the use of anabolic steroids by New Jersey law enforcement personnel. The proposed legislation is an ineffective, ill-informed knee-jerk response to an investigative series by the Newark Star-Ledger exposing the high-number of cops obtaining prescriptions for anabolic steroids. The newspaper questioned the validity of such prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy and the legitimacy of the doctor(s) issuing them. The proposed legislation does nothing to determine whether TRT prescriptions are valid. [Read more...]

Anti-Steroid Propaganda on NBC Television Drama “Life”

The short-lived NBC crime drama television series “Life” demonized anabolic steroids in the plotline of the episode entitled “Everything… All the Time.” The producers of “Life” blamed anabolic steroids for murder, roid rage, a suicide attempt, steroid overdose, and bleeding from the eyes in this bit of far-fetched anti-steroid propaganda. The “roid rage” scene rivaled the classic “Ben Affleck Roid Rage After School Special” in its imaginative and fictional portrayal of roid rage. [Read more...]

General Nutrition Centers (GNC) expressed feigned outrage in a statement released to Newsday. Alex Rodriguez made the allegation that dietary supplements that have been sold in the past at GNC could have triggered false positive steroid results in athletes subject to anti-doping procedures. A spokesperson did not directly deny the claim as false but made a strong effort to cloud the real issue rather than acknowledge it (“GNC not happy with A-Rod’s steroid saga,” February 19).
